Dearest Bob ~ The Woman is fortunate to have one pantry inspector. I have five! They are very seasonal in their careers. All open doors are inspected many times a day. Sometimes they actually work overtime! Some have been known to spend hours in a location because the door had been closed. π¬π Fortunately no complaints were made to management. πππ
My calico, Lacey weighs all of 6 pounds and looks like the daintiest little thing you've ever seen, but she can open any door, wiggle into the space, and close it behind her...especially the pantry!
Dark pantryβs are a wonderful place to sleep! Much like a closet door left open, the room become like soundproof booth, where cats are unable to hear any amount of name calling while they peacefully sleep!!!
I like "unauthorized access is a birthright. " Closed doors interfere with every cats patrolling duties but it is particularly important to provide access to the pantry. After all how can a cat protect the humans foods from uninvited diners?
Cats love pantrys! You are correct, Bob, they are not looking for food......but they DO need to inspect any room behind a closed door. I think so they can look out and not be seen....maybe....lol......love the graphics, by the way.....just keep doing what you're doing! xoxoxoxoxo

I have had cats over the years that could open doors, and now I have 2 and I often find them in the linen closet.

My poodle is very smart, but I swear my Siamese cats are smarter - or craftier. You know your fellow felines very well.
